Compared to Europe and the MEA (Middle-east and Africa) regions, Belgian customers made relatively more use of debit cards for e-commerce payments, accounting for 30 percent of the market share. In particular, for online shopping in Belgium, as of 2018, Bancontact was the most important. Bancontact a payment scheme from Brussels that, like PayPal, is responsible for the processing of electronic payments but specifically targets the Belgian market.

The source mentions the numbers have been compiled "using a mixture of primary and secondary data sources. Primary refers to our own surveys and commissioned research; whereas secondary refers to authoritative third-party vendor data, and other publicly available data." No specifics, however, are given.
